Narrative
During my stay in Sevilla, the intense sunlight, vibrant Spanish culture, and daily routines directed by the sun sparked contemplation about different spiritual practices and rituals associated with the sun.
This exploration forms part of ongoing research into my dual Irish/Mexican heritage, delving into Aztec and Celtic traditions. Inspired by indigenous Otomí practices in Mexico, I have created handmade paper using research papers, drawings, as well as orange blossoms, leaves and peels into the paper symbolizing my experiences in Seville.
This ritualistic paper-making ritual incorporates the four elemental forces, weaving ancestral connections, grounding me in the present, and breaking routines to welcome new beginnings.
