Narrative

Luck and chance go hand in hand with choice and decision. Creating alternative narratives through familiar objects and icons, the works attempt to capture the moment of a wish, a place as ephemeral as it is infinite, between what we desire and what’s fulfilled. What links and separates purpose from fate?

Biography

Mariana Lourenço (Coimbra, 2001) is a visual artist based in Lisbon. In 2024 she graduated in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, through which she took part in the Erasmus+ program at RUFA - Rome University of Fine Arts, in 2023.
As writing is a fundamental element in her understanding of everyday life, her work is frequently a consequence of the word. In an attempt to make visible what is untranslatable from words, her work intends to explore the fine line between fiction and reality.
Although she finds greatest comfort with painting and textile manipulation, she takes advantage of a variety of media, also using references and materials connected to her family environment, a consequence of growing up closely linked to homemade related crafts.
Her work is, all in all, an attempt to navigate between the comfortable and the strange. Like someone narrating a story, little by little.
