Narrative
A project that arose from a desire to continue the research carried out so far into the erotic, distance and the landscapes of the body, but which, nevertheless, deviated from this, with an autonomy of its own, and naturally, to deal with the artist’s vision of himself. How our own vision confirms or alters the real, the apparently present and physical, while also adding an inner, psychological and sensitive dimension that is inherent and governs us. The artist’s vision of his own being, his inner self and his person is manifested here through symbols and signs representing what he sees emerging in himself. The circumstances that surround him permeate his meaning and allow for a self-analysis hitherto neglected and taken as secondary, at least in intent or realisation assumed by the creator of the works.
The exploration of materials completely alien to the artist’s usual practice, such as wax (and the silicone used to create moulds), cast iron, stone and mirrors, open up new horizons and provide an initiation into working with new materials that can accompany the author’s path as a creator of image-objects, as well as expanding the artist’s plastic universe, opening up space for new thoughts about and for the works.
Biography
Pedro Anacleto (Lisbon, 2002) is a Portuguese artist based in Lisbon, with a degree in Painting from the University of Fine Arts of Lisbon. Through painting and sculptural objects, the personal and biographical narrative of his work is based on the exploration of sexuality and the erotic, as well as love. The work is based on the freezing of moments in which the universe is experienced, through lived experience and eroticism. Making use of iconographic and ancestral forms to create a mystical imagery, his work thrives on collage, both physical - in his objects - and within his painting, manufacturing a spatial assemblage of erotic and human feeling. His images invite an encounter with the erotic, sometimes assumed and vocal, as well as a reflection on its importance and how it can manifest itself in the being. The body is seen as a landscape and desire as the defining movement of this space-body in self-analysis and conversation with others. Eros is a confrontation with life and what sustains it.
