Narrative
Since October 2021, my nights have been spent working in a nightclub. ‘I no longer go out with my friends’ is a work that emerged at that time. What used to be for me a place of communion and encounter with the people around me became the place where I worked to make that same place exist for other people.
As I approach adulthood and face the working world, I think about being young and the challenges that arise at this stage. In the search for a home, independence, freedom and eventual stability, I take refuge in my bedroom and the screen of my mobile phone.
Three years later, at a time when I’ve finally quit my night job, I’m trying to understand how this period has moulded me – me, my relationships, my authorial work; and what it means to grow up in an increasingly demanding, and sometimes lonely, world.
